The Arsenal is recruiting!
Friday, 23 October 2009 00:00

(Updated 23 October 2009)

We're one of the longest running raiding guilds on Bloodfeather and we've beaten every dungeon boss between the fiery depths of Molten Core and the icy glaciers of Northrend. Fire, sand, ice, magic, dragons, dwarves, bugs, undeads, elementals, demons, aliens -- Nothing has stopped us in almost four years! Now we're looking forward to Icecrown Citadel and the next Expansion Cataclysm where the saga continues.

Do you want to be part of it?

If you're dedicated, reliable, well geared and excellent at playing your class, then we're looking for YOU to join us in our adventure. Currently we're interested in a variety of classes / roles so we encourage everyone to apply if they have what it takes:

- Raid Times: We're raiding 5 days a week (Sun-Thu) from 20:30 to 0:30 server time
- Gear: Your gear should reflect your level of commitment. We expect gear that is suitable for Ulduar and Trial of the Crusader.
- Skill: You should know the tactics for all current bosses (Ulduar + TOC) and be eager to learn about new encounters

What classes are we looking for?

We're currently looking for all classes and specs. If you're good, we want you in!

How do you join?

Simply take 5 minutes to fill out our recruitment form (see link below). It will be posted to our forum's recruitment section and the relevant class leader will get back to you ASAP! Please note that you do not have to register for a forum account in order to apply.

Where is The Arsenal raiding atm?

We're currently farming Ulduar and Trial of the Crusader. For 25 man raids we are using our dkp system which encourages and rewards high attendance quota with quicker access to items. 10 man instances are dkp free.

We're determined to get back to consistent 25 man raiding and finishing off Arthas in Icecrown Citadel.

What else can you expect?

We're a friendly guild and have a lot of fun together. Raiding end game content is clearly our business, but we've never passed on a chance to visit our horde friends in their major cities long before there was an achievement reward for it. We're going back to old school instances from time to time so the newer players that have missed out on the original raiding experience can now get a feeling for it. Ofc you'll have a great time if you're interested in running heroics or leveling alts together as well. We have many members doing arenas as well.

Our DKP System
Thursday, 23 April 2009 16:41

A long time ago, when Onyxia was considered a challenge and 6000hp was impressive. A group of computer literate individuals got together and decided to create the ultimate, virtual currency.  Days later, most likely in a poorly lit basement, DKP was born!

Back in the day, DKP was recorded and processed manually using an abbacus and enough paper to cover a decent size room. Errors were likely and those Nightslayer Gloves you'd been waiting weeks for were given to some other Rogue as a coffee stain on the "loot masters" less than organised DKP list had smudged your name!

Chaos was inevitable!  Something had to be done!!

Soon thereafter, EQDKP was coded, geeks rejoiced and that poor abbacus became obsolete once more.

A few years past and EQDKP got more and more sophisticated.  To the point a poorly trained monkey could probably record DKP with little to no effort.

I am that monkey and this is how our DKP system works.....

We use a modified version of CT_RaidTracker to record DKP.  All events, such as boss kills and loot are recorded on the fly so nothing is missed.  I've modified the coding of this add-on slightly to work with our pricing system.  All the item costs are processed as items drop,  Information is posted into the arsedkp channel in real-time.  You're welcome to join this channel if you wish, but it should not be used as an area to discuss anything as it needs to be kept clear at all times.  That was your warning, you wont get another!

Any items sent to the bank or disenchanted are recorded as such using special commands and are priced at 0DKP. These items are ignored by the DKP site.

Once raid time is over, CT_RaidTracker creates an output string.  This string contains all the information logged over the course of the raid, such as Attendees, Loot, Bosses Killed etc.

This string is passed to the DKP site where a parser scans and processes it, picking out all the information it needs to update the DKP site.

This next part is important...

Every Attendee of a given raid receives 100% of the DKP earned regardless of how long they were in the raid or how many bosses they killed.

We award 25DKP for Attendance and 50DKP for a boss kill.  First time kills will alter this amount.

Say we killed 3 bosses on a given raid.  That's 3x50 plus the 25 for Attendance which totals 175DKP.

One player killed all 3. They're awarded 175DKP
Another player only kills 1 boss. They're also awarded 175DKP

However, the system then calculates partial attendance based on the time each attendee joins and leaves the raid.  If a boss is killed outside of the times an attendee is not in the raid, then they receive an adjustment equal to the amount of DKP that was awarded for that boss.

So, the second attendee was not in the raid for 2 boss kills, therefore 100DKP is taken off them.  This is done via a personal adjustment and is always an automated process.  The system should never made a mistake with this.

That important part I mentioned earlier......you just read it! :)

DKP is usually updated as soon after the raid as possible, usually within minutes of the raid being called.  So the site should be up-to-date more or less all the time.

If you don't appear on the DKP list then you've been set as inactive, this is another automated process that happens once there's been no raid activity from a given character for 5 consecutive days.  You can still check your DKP by scrolling to the bottom of the DKP site and clicking the "show all" link.  Inactive players are shown with their names in italics.

If you feel that your DKP is inaccurate or if you have any other questions, please submit a ticket.  DKP queries raised this way will ensure they get processed ASAP.  Please do not raise DKP queries any other way.

3.1 Live Tonight?
Tuesday, 14 April 2009 16:25

It's being reported on MMO-Champion that patch 3.1 is going live tonight!

Make sure your background downloader is fully finished to reduce the wait time tomorrow.

If you want to try and download (~800MB) manually, open this torrent in your favourite torrent program.  Once the content is downloaded, you'll need to move the wow-partial files into the folder your BGDL would normally download patch data.  On Vista it should be C:\Users\Public\Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\Patches\WoW-3.0.9-to-3.1.0-enGB-Win-patch I'm not sure of the location in XP.

Update:  I've just installed 3.1 and if your BGDL was fully completed, there's only an additional 30MB needed to patch the game fully.

If you haven't seen it already, check out this nice Cinematic to bring you up to speed on the goings on prior to 3.1

The Archive
Tuesday, 14 April 2009 16:20

The Archive is a new page I've created, using data from the DKP site.  It lists all the first time kills we've achieved over the years and is accessible via the Main Menu.

Please can you take a look at it and tell me of any bosses I may have missed.  Please exclude Karazhan as there are no records of most of the kills in the DKP site.

I'd also like screenshots for any of the first time kills that are currently unavailable.  If you have any, please PM me and attach the image files.
